Friday marked the day when the political future of PTI’s chief Imran Khan and the party’s General-Secretary Jahangir Tareen was to be decided by the Supreme Court. The court delivered a verdict that has been shaking up social media.

Last year, after the blow out of the Panama Leaks throughout the world, former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was accused of owning a offshore company, along with his fiercest political rival Imran Khan. While a case for filed against Sharif who was eventually ousted from the Prime Minister’s office, PML-N leader Hanif Abbasi filed a case against Jahangir Tareen and Imran Khan for not completely declaring their assets.

Announcing the judgement, the Supreme Court ruled that Imran Khan was cleared of all charges of failure to disclose assets and money laundering, and also ruled that it was indeed the PTI chief’s former wife Jemima Goldsmith who provided him the funds to build his Bani Gala mansion.

The fate of Jahangir Tareen, though, proved to be completely different. Tareen was adjudged to have been involved in insider trading, and failing to disclose an offshore company he was actively involved in. The court rendered him disqualified as a member of Parliament for life, under Article 62(1)(f) which reads: “A person shall not be qualified to be elected or chosen as a member of Majlis-e-Shoora (Parliament) unless-…he is sagacious, righteous and non-profligate, honest and ameen, there being no declaration to the contrary by a court of law.”

Despite being extremely disappointed by Tareen’s ruling, the PTI leadership seemed fairly upbeat..

Naeem Bukhari deserves a big pat on the back by Imran Khan..

The rest of the country seemed relieved with the verdict, and satisfied with the court’s performance..

Now this is some solid food for thought..
