This photographer, artist and story-teller did us all a huge favour!
Maham Iqbal Bosan, a design graduate of Beaconhouse National University who had never studied art or design before her bachelors, had an epiphany last year when she stumbled upon ‘New York in Color’ a compilation of solid coloured photographs found in the streets of New York. For a change a country being represented by something other than monuments, she reflected.

Looking through the plain photographs in the book, I craved for stories. Stories of people, stories of places, stories of colours.. COLORS! Colours?…What if I make conversation with colours and give a voice to all my visuals? These questions took me back to all the pictures I have ever taken in Pakistan, and the integral part colours have played in telling a story.
Thus, the “Story of Hues” sowed its seeds.
We always get beautiful posts-cards from friends returning from other countries that feature intense stories, as opposed to the national monuments that have graced Pakistani post-cards long enough to have made eyes sore. Maham has a breakthrough idea!

Having surfed through libraries abroad, I realized Pakistan needs more creative representation. Being a designer and photographer I felt like it’s my responsibility to fill the gap.

Channelling her personal style for raw and conceptual shoots that relay intense stories, in a little, minimal, white box-because all colours mix up to be white- Maham has put together:
- 28 photographs/postcards taken BY her on travels around Pakistan
- 28 stories (behind every card)
- One Polaroid cut out
- 10 pretty envelopes
- A leaf inside (representing closeness to Earth and nature)
- Hand-written notes
- White thread to string it all together
