It has been for ten seasons now that Coke Studio has been wooing Pakistani music lovers. With every season having it’s own distinguished numbers, there was one song that always stood out, and that is exactly the song that has broken the 100 Million views barrier on YouTube.
The week for Coke Studio began on the downside, with the show’s principal producers, Strings, announcing that they would be leaving the show after four years of production and composition. This might also be a consequence of their final season probably being their least popular one so far. Season 8 will remain a shining light in Coke Studio’s illustrious history, even if it goes on for another ten seasons, and it is a song from season 8 that has now reached an unprecedented milestone.
Tajdar-e-Haram has become the first Coke Studio song to cross 100 million views on YouTube, and it is absolutely no surprise why. It was the first Coke Studio song that attained nationwide popularity and appreciation, and was on every one’s playlist soon after the first episode of Season 8 was aired. In the Behind The Scenes (BTS) video for the song, Atif Aslam promised that listeners would explore the meaning of the song, and that they certainly did, a 100 million times. The song also received a push after the sad demise of Amjad Sabri last year, as his fans flogged to every memory of Sabri Sab on YouTube, and there was no better song to go to than Atif Aslam’s version of Tajdar-e-Haram, a rendition that was appreciated by Amjad Sabri himself.
But there is another song that is close behind, and probably deserved the record more than Tajdar-e-Haram. Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Momina Mustehsan’s iconic Afreen Afreen from Season 9 in on 99.5 million views, and should cross the 100 million mark by the end of the week. Another fact worth noting is that Tajdar-e-Haram achieved the feat in almost three years while the same feat is about to be achieved by Afreen Afreen in a year and a half. Tera Woh Pyaar sits in third with a cool 56 million views.
