“We want to tell Qandeel’s story in a very sensitive way,” says producer Nina Kashif.
Few days back, Saba Qamar posted her pictures on her Instagram account in which she looked a lot like Qandeel Baloch, in that red shirt. The actress just confirmed on her Instagram account that she is going to play Qandeel Baloch in a biopic. Now that’s a bold step, lady.
Saba Qamar is already in news nowadays since her Bollywood debut movie, Hindi Medium‘s release is around the corner. She will be seen working opposite Irrfan Khan, Bollywood’s most noteworthy actor. Saba Qamar recently made news for not attending Hum Awards in protest. The actress is on a roll. Now, she just confirmed her role in Qandeel Baloch’s biopic which will be aired on Urdu1 TV Channel. The drama serial will be called Baaghi.
“I am going to be playing Qandeel Baloch in a biopic. There are stories that need to be told and I want to help tell them. I have cut my hair in order to play her. It’s going to be exciting,” said Saba.
The cast of the drama will include Osman Khalid Butt, Sarmad Khosat, Ali Kazmi and Saba Qamar as the lead role. Saba Qamar further added:
Qandeel was a victim and a fighter and somebody needs to tell her story. She was a woman who went from place to place trying to find work for herself. She tried to work in transport, read devotional naats on TV but wherever she went, she was misused by people. It was only much later that she chose to make videos on the Internet. And she did all this and earned money and used it to support her family. Her family didn’t have any problems taking money from her but they felt that it was all right to turn around and kill her in the name of honor.

That’s the thing we like about @sabaqamarzaman, she’s always ready for a challenging role and amaze us with her remarkable performance! We’re sure that she’ll do full justice to the role.✨ PC: @dawn_images #peoplepakistan
Qandeel represented the double standards that exist in our society. She had the courage to expose how two-faced people could be. There were many people that condemned her in the name of religion but tell me, doesn’t religion tell us to abide by many things? How can we choose to selectively follow what we find comfortable and attack anybody who tries to break free from the norms that we choose to set.
When Saba was asked about the threats that will follow, she said: “Let them follow. Everyone has to die someday. I’d rather die after doing something worthwhile.”
Considering the bold cast, this show is bound to get good ratings and will definitely hit some hard-truths of our society. We wish Best of Luck to Saba Qamar and the team.
