The Great Warrior: Younis Khan reaches 10k runs!

Pakistan is a country full of talented people When it comes to cricket, we are a very talented country which has been blessed with natural talent. We have seen legends like Javed Miandad excel and we have also seen ‘What could have been’ like Mohammad Asif. We seldom see a player make it all the way through sheer hard work, determination and guts. Well until a man known as Younis Khan came along. A man who fought through adversity, controversies, let downs and still managed to make a name for himself.

From his debut in 2000 against Sri Lanka to as recent as yesterday’s innings in Jamaica, The‘Mard e Buhraan’ from Mardan has been a warrior. With a sweep for four, he once again etched his name in Pakistani and world cricket history. Younis became the first Pakistani batsman to score 10,000 runs in Test match cricket. He is only the thirteenth overall and is in an elite group of cricketing greats.

Younis was never a flat track bully, he has played match winning knocks in difficult circumstances and against toughest of opponents. He is one of the few men to make hundreds against all test playing nations and the only player to make hundreds in 11 Nations. He has bailed Pakistan out of difficult situations on numerous occasions. He was on most occasions a lone warrior who single handedly gave Pakistan the victory.

Younis never has given up without a fight and it always shows when people start doubting him or write him off, he comes back with a bang. With this 10,000 run milestone, he has undoubtedly cemented his place as the greatest batsman in Pakistani cricket history and following are a few more records that Younis has accomplished.

“I credit this success and achievement to all my family members, especially my late father, my mother and the late Bob Woolmer, who always motivated me,” Younis said. “This is not just my achievement, this is for everyone in Pakistan, this is Pakistan’s achievement.”

He was congratulated by the Prime Minister on this remarkable achievement. Chief Minister Punjab, Imran Khan and various others. Tributes flew in from all around the world.
