“My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style”- Maya Angelou.
If you remember the 100 cakes ordered as birth announcement for Fawad Khan’s daughter birth, then you should know that this order was undertaken by AroobaRizwan, the wonder woman behind Cakery Bakery, one of the most up-scale and eminent bakeries to have surfaced in the city of late!
Born with a “dessert stomach”, reading, drawing, painting, and baking were always more than hobbies for her. Her elder sisters have been avid bakers since the age of 9 so she grew up observing them baking cakes, perfecting them, and then launching their very own The Cakery Bakery in 2007 to share this perfection with the foodies of Lahore.
Since then, this home based business has drastically expanded: Arooba has handled all sorts and sizes of orders- including the 100 cakes for Fawad Khan- and The Cakery Bakery has now extended its services to managing small-scale events, the scope of which will soon expand.
Things are not always easy if you are a female entrepreneur: there are social pressures, self-doubts, operational issues and a constant need for self-motivation. For Arooba too, It can be overwhelming at times and though she’s always on her toes, she believes that being an entrepreneur breaks monotony and the thrill is in the challenges that encourage creativity. Time management in the kitchen and being able to plan and schedule efficiently is what saves the day for her. She recently got married and has the fortune of finding a husband who is an endearing source of encouragement.
Her mother, my sisters, and best friends have supported her through the highs and lows- even when she was once on the verge of giving up! She also fuels her motivation by seeking inspiration from Ellen DeGeneres (and don’t we all?) for the smiles she spreads, Nigella Lawson for her passion for food, Gordon Ramsey for his ability to critique effectively, and Jamie Oliver for his simplicity in cooking and creating amazing new recipes.
Her message to women out there is:
…success does not come without a courageous decision. If you dream it and want it, start working for it right this instant. Nothing is impossible. If failure or circumstances stop you from achieving the goal, tune yourself to make failure and circumstances work as a fuel. No big decisions are made without having in mind the risk of failure.
Looking forward: there will be a number of events that The Cakery Bakery will be managing and this year will also see further the expansion of the business by bringing products even more closer to it’s customers and we wish her all the best!
